HAVOYOCO provides integrated Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) packages to local communities in Somaliland and Ethiopia. Provision of WASH programing package is fundamental to maintaining the safety and dignity of local communities
Over the last 30 years, HAVOYOCO has been a key player in the water sector in Somaliland. The organization has worked and implemented WASH Programming with many partners include Oxfam GB, Care, CHF, UNICEF, UNDP, DFID, ACTION AID, DF Norway and others.
We have been supporting people affected by recurrent drought and climate change in Somaliland with providing food security and livelihoods support mainly through cash relief, cash for work and skills training. We are working with regional and national humanitarian actors to be set up better to deliver humanitarian aid.
We provide extensive climate change trainings as agriculture & farming activities depend on climatic conditions & as well as agriculture contributes to climate change
HAVOYOCO established the first community seed bank in Somaliland, Galooley seed bank is intended to be center for restoration, storage and distribution of agricultural seeds to handle, boost & upswing the seed quality and quantity of Somaliland farmers.
HAVOYOCO aims to empower women and young people to advocate for and claim their rights and has been implementing education projects in Somaliland for the last two decades and is currently working in both Somaliland and Ethiopia. HAVOYOCO has vast experience in providing support for the hard-to-reach children through formal and alternative basic education (ABE) programmes. Innovative programmes characterized by flexibility in curriculum and school timetable, teaching and learning programs, and use of existing structures and education systems. For the last decade HAVOYOCO was implementing the emergency in education projects with different donors in Sanaag,Awdal, Maroodijex, Sahel Sool and Togdheer regions of Somaliland .HAVOYOCO has a good experience in implementing school cash grants which was an innovation to the EiE Project in Somaliland Through our education projects, we provide teaching and learning materials, train teachers, and build the capacity of the community education committees at village levels . We work with local village development committees to encourage their involvement in school management and we enable children to participate in decision making on matters affecting their rights.
For over Twenty-five years HAVOYOCO has been running marketable vocational trainings to reintegrate vulnerable youth into Somaliland societies through the provision of innovative and vocational skills. Since 1998, over 20,000 youths (40% females) have successfully graduated from HAVOYOCO skills courses, mainly in livelihood and employment creation for youth.
Most of the beneficiaries are youth aged between 18-30 years from the poorest of poor among refugee, returnees and IDPs while others are destitute orphans and other victims of war who depended on their relatives. The vocational center has rapidly grown and gained reputation of providing quality education with high chances of employment on immediate completion of the courses. The center initially started with intake students of 50, who were applying for the courses, where the center currently receives applications from around 2200 applicants every year. This high demand has encouraged HAVOYOCO to open number of centers in most of the regional main towns such as Hargeisa, Borama, Berbera, Lasanod, Burao, Gabiley and Erigavo.
Due to this long term HAVOYOCO involvement of the subject matter enables them to maintain good relationship with different main employers both private and public and this facilitated to find internship opportunities for the graduates from the potential employers.
HAVOYOCO TVET program is not only skills training program, but also trainees are provided other training including entrepreneurship and Business Development service or build your business these trainings were intended to equip the trainees with business skills as they are willing to find jobs or establish their own businesses. It is estimated that 70% of the TVET graduates have got employment opportunities and changed their lives for the better.
HAVOYOCO works with local communities, CBOs, youth and child groups, governments, civil society organizations, and partners to influence and improve systems, processes and structures that protect children and their families. We provide protection services to children at risk of or exposed to abuse, neglect, violence and exploitation. These include child and mother health interventions, improving access to basic and social services, including social protection, for recipients of the Child Benefit, psychological first aid, psychosocial support through case management, the provision of child- friendly spaces, and Strengthening child sensitivity of the ‘Child Benefit” using the “cash plus” approach
HAVOYOCO supported women in trade in the cross-border areas between Somaliland and Ethiopia: construction of women friendly markets, trainings and strengthening of women trade groups through linkages and capacity building.
Furthermore, HAVOYOCO continues to support Communities living in the border areas through Drought Preparedness initiatives, WASH Programing and livestock management
