Who we are

Founded on 23rd August 1992 in Hargeisa, Somaliland. Horn of Africa Voluntary Youth Committee (HAVOYOCO) is a regional non-governmental, non-partisan, humanitarian organization, with its Head quarter in Hargeisa. Country Programs in Somaliland and Somali Region of Ethiopia. HAVAOYOCO is also operational and has liaison offices in the Horn of Africa. HAVOYOCO is also registered, operational, as sister organizations in UK and USA.

Promotion of Sustainable Agricultural Practices Implementing innovative farming techniques to enhance productivity and sustainability. Encouraging crop diversification and soil conservation practices. Livestock Health and Vaccination Campaigns Conducting regular vaccination programs to prevent and control livestock diseases. Providing veterinary services and support to maintain animal health. Income-Generating Initiatives for Agro-Pastoralists Supporting agro-pastoralists with resources and training to develop alternative income streams. Promoting small-scale enterprises and value-added agricultural products. Water Sources Development and Rehabilitation Constructing and rehabilitating water sources to ensure reliable access for agricultural and livestock needs. Implementing water conservation and management strategies Market Access Improvement for Cooperative Products Facilitating access to local and regional markets for cooperative products. Enhancing the value chain through improved packaging, branding, and marketing strategies. Training for Animal Health Workers Providing comprehensive training programs for Animal Health Workers to enhance their skills and knowledge. Equipping Animal Health Workers with the necessary tools and resources to effectively serve their communities.		Enhanced Agricultural Productivity: Our various programs have significantly increased crop yields and overall agricultural productivity for numerous farmers. Livelihood Diversification and Resource Access: We have diversified livelihoods for 3000 farmers, providing them with access to productive resources such as agricultural inputs, equipment, and credit facilities. Improved Livestock Production and Health: By engaging Community-Based Animal Health Workers (CBAHWs), we improved animal health and productivity, benefiting 60% of households with doorstep services in the operational areas. Improved Water Access: We have ensured better health outcomes and sanitation practices by providing access to clean and safe water for approximately 25,100 people and 45% of the livestock population in the targeted kebeles.
Skill Development and Capacity Building
Vocational Training and Skill Development Programs Providing training in trades such as carpentry, masonry, office management, electricity, and plumbing. Offering handcrafting skills training to promote self-employment and artisanal businesses. Adult Education Initiatives Implementing literacy and numeracy programs for adults to enhance their educational attainment and employability. Promoting lifelong learning opportunities to foster personal and professional growth. Entrepreneurial Training for Women and Youth Delivering targeted entrepreneurial training to equip women and youth with the skills needed to start and manage businesses. Supporting the development of business plans, financial management skills, and market analysis capabilities.		Vocational Training: We have provided marketable skills to 7,710 youths, aligning with local labor market demands and enhancing their employability and economic prospects. Entrepreneurship Development: Through training and mentorship, 19,852 youths have developed business plans, accessed financial resources, and acquired essential management and marketing skills, leading to the successful establishment and expansion of many businesses. Apprenticeship Scheme: We facilitated job placements for 2,200 youths, helping them secure sustainable employment and creating pathways for long-term career growth.
Socio-Economic Empowerment

Providing leadership and mentorship opportunities to build confidence and skills. Financial Literacy and Savings Groups Establishing and supporting savings groups to enhance financial literacy and economic stability. Offering training in budgeting, savings, and financial management to empower individuals and communities. Support for Women-Led Cooperatives Providing resources, training, and technical assistance to strengthen women-led cooperatives. Facilitating market access and business development opportunities for cooperative products. HIV/AIDS Awareness and Stigma Reduction Conducting educational campaigns and workshops to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and reduce stigma. Using peer education, counseling, and support services to protect vulnerable populations. Social Mobilization through Art, Drama, and Workshops Utilizing creative methods such as circus, art, and drama to engage communities in social mobilization activities. Addressing key issues like HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, and social justice through interactive and participatory approaches.		Economic Opportunities for Women and Youth: We have created economic opportunities for 4,728 women and youth, empowering them to achieve financial independence. Gender Equality Promotion: Our initiatives have actively promoted gender equality by challenging social norms and supporting women's equal participation in socio-economic activities. Women's Rights and Entrepreneurship Advocacy: Our programs included advocacy for women's rights, training on gender-based violence prevention, and support for women's entrepreneurship, resulting in increased gender equality and empowerment.
Sustainable Ecosystem and Climate Change Adaptation

Environmental rehabilitation and natural resource management projects Climate change adaptation strategies Sustainable farming and land use practices		Community Resilience Building: We have built and empowered community resilience to adapt to climate change impacts, reducing vulnerability to climate-related risks. Ecosystem Restoration: Through promoting sustainable natural resource management practices, we contributed to the restoration and protection of approximately 120 hectares of valuable ecosystems. Climate-Smart Agricultural Practices: We supported 3,456 farmers in adopting climate-smart agricultural practices, such as organic farming and efficient irrigation methods, enhancing productivity while minimizing environmental impacts. Disaster Preparedness and Response: Our interventions focused on strengthening disaster preparedness and response mechanisms in vulnerable communities, enhancing resilience to climate-related disasters and reducing loss of lives and livelihoods.

Promotion of Sanitation and Hygiene Practices: Our initiatives have successfully promoted better sanitation and hygiene practices within communities. Cooking Demonstrations and Nutrition Education: Through cooking demonstrations and nutrition education on food groups, particularly in Mother-to-Mother (M2M), Mother Care Group (MCG), and School Health Club (SHC) settings, we have improved dietary practices. Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture: Our programs have integrated nutrition-sensitive agricultural practices, enhancing food security and nutrition outcomes. Social and Behavioral Change Communication: We have implemented social and behavioral change communication strategies to promote better health and nutrition practices.
